Authors Invade ASIJ
ASIJ recently played host to Vikas Swarup, who wrote "Q&A" the book that Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire was based on, and James Bradley, who wrote New York Times bestseller "Flags of our Fathers." Both authors spoke to high school students about their work and love of books. Students in middle school had the opportunity to work with award-winning childrens' author Jack Gantos, who writes the Joey Pigza series, and Alan Gratz, author of "Samurai Shortstop," who is ASIJ's first scholar-in-residence. Elementary schoolers were also treated to fun presentations, imaginative storytelling and artwork when author illustrator Ross Kinnard visited campus. Thanks to the support of the PTA who helped fund and facilitate these visits, 2010 has proved to be a bumper year for writing at ASIJ.
